What to Look for in a Red Light Therapy Bed
A full-body bed is a long-term investment for a spa or clinic. Nine things separate a bed your clients will book again from one that sits idle. Use the checklist at the end on every vendor call.
1. Coverage: how many sides at once
Light only reaches the skin it faces. A single-sided bed or wall panel lights one side at a time, so clients reposition during a session. Look for how many directions the bed covers in one position. The ElysianPod covers six: top, bottom, both sides, head and foot.
2. Wavelengths, and why the range matters
Most photobiomodulation research studies red light (roughly 630–680 nm) and near-infrared light (roughly 800–850 nm). Ask which wavelengths a bed emits and whether you can adjust them. The ElysianPod's PlatinumLED BIOMAX PRO panels emit seven wavelengths: 480, 630, 660, 810, 830, 850 and 1060 nm, each individually adjustable.
FDA registration and ETL testing apply to the PlatinumLED panels; the ElysianPod enclosure is designed and built by Elysian Wellness.
3. Output at the skin, not just LED count
Irradiance is the light energy that actually reaches the skin, and it drops with distance from the panel. A high LED count doesn't guarantee strong output if the panels sit far from the body. Ask how close the panels sit to the client in every direction.
4. Session length and throughput
Shorter sessions let you book more clients per day, which is what pays for the bed. An ElysianPod session is 10 minutes, about a 20-minute slot on the schedule with changeover.
5. Heat and cooling
Full-body beds generate warmth. Ask how the bed manages heat during back-to-back sessions and what the client feels. The ElysianBreeze cooldown fan is available as an add-on for the ElysianPod.
6. FDA status and electrical safety
Watch the wording. "FDA-cleared" means the device went through a 510(k) review and has a K-number you can look up. "FDA-registered" means the manufacturer and device are listed with the FDA. "FDA-certified" isn't a real designation. Separately, look for an electrical safety listing such as ETL. The ElysianPod is built with FDA-registered Class II panels, which are ETL tested.
7. Footprint and room fit
Ask for the closed footprint and the clearance needed when the bed opens. Walk the delivery path too: doorways, turns and elevators.
8. Installation and power
Most full-body beds need a dedicated 240V circuit. Confirm the power spec before you commit to a room. The ElysianPod includes white-glove delivery and full setup, and an EcoFlow battery is available as an add-on for rooms without 240V.
9. Warranty and service
Ask how long the warranty runs, what it covers and who comes out if something fails. The ElysianPod carries a 3-year warranty.

What's the most important feature in a red light therapy bed?
Coverage and session time together. A bed that lights the whole body at once in a short session serves more clients per day.
What's the difference between FDA-cleared and FDA-registered?
Cleared devices passed a 510(k) review and carry a K-number. Registered devices are listed with the FDA. Neither is "certified."
Do more LEDs mean a better bed?
Not on their own. What matters is how much light reaches the skin, which depends on panel output and distance.
What power does a full-body bed need?
Usually a dedicated 240V circuit. Confirm the spec with the manufacturer before choosing a room.
